About Us

The 62 Group of Textile Artists was established in 1962 to provide opportunities for professional textile artists to exhibit and promote their work, to develop public awareness and to raise the profile of Textile Art. The Group has developed over the years, gaining an international reputation through the success of its exhibitions.

The Group is a non-profit making Organisation run by an elected committee of its own members. Membership is international and by selection or invitation. Individuals are required to exhibit regularly to maintain their membership entitlement. Over the past forty years some of the finest and most highly regarded British and international textile artists have been members of the 62 Group.

Many members have work in private and public museum collections and frequently take on commissions in association with architects and regional arts authorities. Projects have included significant ecclesiastical textiles and other site-specific pieces including many examples of corporate art. A large proportion of members are involved in education, including the Further, Higher and Continuing education sectors; several are employed by examining bodies as external assessors and moderators. Many seminal books have been published on the subject of embroidery and textile art written by both past and present members. Over the years this has led to television series and programmes and into the field of video productions.
